LISTEN, I KNOW you've passed through an unusually challenging stretch of history. How long has it been? Two years? Three? Some would say it's been life in hell. Others would say one test after the next, and many moments of truth. But I ask you: would you trade away being spared what you've been through for what you've gained?

Of course not. And the beauty of this is that, at this point, I can pretty much assure you that you don't even know how much, or exactly what, that gain is. Most of it has come in the way of confidence rather than material wealth. You're always one who can put a good, wholesome dinner on the table, so we can worry about money another year. The rest of what you've gained has come through a painstaking process of finding what some mystics call your 'higher self' in the midst of a great many other options.

Do you know what I mean? Perhaps I'd better explain. When your Taurus cousin, Bono, said that a conscience can sometimes be a pest, he knew what he was talking about. And like a good poet, he rather understated the case.

Please, allow me to get technical for a moment. The 9th sign from Taurus is Capricorn. Thus, Capricorn is your solar 9th house -- the house where you process all of your spiritual material, where you hold your concept of God or Goddess, and where you keep your sense of what is possible for you, in your life. The 9th is about expansion, and we begin expanding ourselves with ideas. With Capricorn there, well, you may live within some rather structured concepts that come with plenty of doubt and guilt. It is often difficult for you to see the far-reaching possibilities; you may not think so, but then, I suspect you've collected enough evidence of this lately to be able to argue the point I'm making.

For three years, Chiron in Capricorn has shown you a wide variety of limitations that you've lived with. They have all involved your belief system; your sense of duty and obligation; or the idea that you owe your life to someone else. This does not feel particularly comfortable to write about, so it must have been rather troubling to experience. Couple this with the sense that you've had to think about everything 29 times before coming to a real conclusion -- the opposition of Saturn in Cancer, your 3rd house -- and we're talking first-class spiritual crisis.

But now you are finding a clear conscience for the first time. It's not that you're right and someone else is wrong, or vice versa; it is simply that you're who you are, and that's good news for you and the world. You have not asked the many questions you've asked, or reached so deeply into yourself for how you feel, for nothing. You're someone to whom it all makes sense in the end. Now that you're at a beginning, it would be excellent if things made more sense at this phase of the game. And in a short time, your life will make perfect sense.

In the most practical terms, 2005 has a dual focus, which comes back to one process of change. First up is going to be your professional situation. Since, after so much spiritual work, you can count on yourself as one who knows right from wrong (for some reason, a rare trait on the planet), you can consider yourself trustworthy with power. That's a good thing, because any shift in employment is likely to come with a surge in responsibility, demands on your intellect, and worldly stature.

You can initiate this process yourself; you are free to do what you want and what you need. And I have a hunch you've been itching for a way to express more of your talent in your work, and to take on the leadership roles that you know you can do better than most of the people who currently have responsibility over you. In this respect, the seeming burden of an overactive conscience becomes your best asset. You are nothing if not ethical, and leadership (now and in the developing future) is nothing if not the expression of ethics. And you don't need to impress this point on anyone -- just be yourself. Trust me, you're impressive enough au naturel.

If professional developments come with some kind of potential or requirement for moving house, or moving cities, I suggest you trust that. It's probably right on time, anyway. I would suggest that a change in physical context -- your home, your location, your region of the world -- will prod you to grow and to explore yourself in new ways. A change of scenery is often very healthy, and it's not merely external. People we've known for a long time can have considerable difficulty setting us free from the person they knew all those years. The prejudices of others are direct projections, and they're also a framework of experience that can lock us in to a way of being. This is particularly true where family is concerned; and before the four seasons now beginning are over, there are likely to be some significant changes in the structure of your genetic family.

Be that as it may, one clear theme of your charts is continuing the process of establishing the family of choice that will take you through much of the next decade. And you can build this family on entirely different terms. You need to be honest with people now, so that once you discover what your real needs are, nobody has any power over you that might prevent you from meeting them. If you never give another person power over your safety or security, you will see what it means to relate to others on more equal terms than those you were indoctrinated into as a member of your family of origin.

Certain factors in your chart -- most obvious among them, the many clear indications of pressing change -- suggest that you may be apprehensive about the future. There's a school of thought that says it's better to meet the day when the day arrives; but astrology's gift of foresight would be wasted, could we not use it to plan a growth agenda. The question is, how well are you able to bring people into your life who can fully identify with your need to be so independent, but still be in intimate relationships? The theme in past seasons has been about you seeing other people's lives for what they are; to be sure, it's more difficult to learn, within yourself, that your experience matters to anyone else.
