I CAN BARELY BEGIN to describe the kinds of awesome opportunities that are open to you now. If you do see them, I suggest you give yourself permission to act on them. You're not daydreaming. If, however, you don't see what's possible or what you aspire to, I would propose that you're either looking too low on the food chain, are fixated on the past, or are still thinking about your life in terms a high school guidance counselor would understand.

You need, simply put, to be the inventor of your life. Invention means creating something new -- not just for you, but quite possibly for the world as well. To do this, it's vital that you state your goals in your terms, and take concrete steps toward making them real. I would propose that, given your astrology this year, you need to discover what you want, and then you need to go about wanting it.

You currently have a degree of authority over your life that is extraordinarily rare. You have the power to liberate yourself from any social norm; from people who would control you; and from outer ideas about what's supposed to be good for you. But note that you are granted this privilege in a world where people are being trained to have ever-less interest in their own destiny and calling. This can create some definite tension between you and those who would rather spend all their energy escaping from freedom.

Now, more than ever, you must take your own lead in the world. It's possible that the last few months of 2004 plunged you headlong into this process, whether you liked it or not, whether you noticed or not. These adventures may or may not have gone well -- the last couple of months of the year were a rough time for many. But please don't judge the journey by the first few steps. Keep going, and look everywhere for the sense of the unfamiliar, the unknown and what feels like the unreal.

In luring you onto this path of self-creation and co-creation, I'm going to depend heavily on your loathing of boredom. Now, if you can parlay that into a passion for achievement and expression, we know you've caught up with your innovative and futuristic astrology; astrology that is dominated by the highly energetic planet Uranus.

To be clear, I speak not of achievement for its own sake, and I am not suggesting that you strive for an extreme of self-sufficiency. In fact, one of the themes of this era of your life is the extent to which your actions, ideas and aspirations affect so many people, with the power to coalesce group awareness. Think at every turn who your work affects, who might benefit from your ideas, and particularly, how you interact with groups where work is concerned.

I hope that the past few years have taught you that you have nothing at all to lose by trying, except the lingering sense that you're somehow not living up to your potential. Because you normally tend to see so many possibilities, though, there is often an understandable measure of comfort you take in limiting them. Infinite potential can be daunting and paralyzing.

Yet we are a culture of mouse potatoes, who tend to see very little in the way of potential. I suggest taking the opposite approach, and raising your sails with the spirit of a world explorer. If you're going to meet your highest aspirations, you need to embrace a high degree of freedom. I suggest you put this tops on your agenda when considering the right profession -- a question that is so central to your life.

Freedom means freedom with time, with expression, with defining your mission, and the freedom of whom you associate with. In short, you must live at the center of a life that allows you to change, sooner rather than later; and with ease, rather than with complication. I will also add this: Freedom means being liberated from what your parents thought your limitations were, from their view of the world, and from what makes them comfortable.

Who knows, you may not see this as an issue. But I suggest you consider it none too carefully. Gemini Laurie Anderson, one of the more original thinkers to rise up in the performing arts in the 20th century, has described herself as the branch that broke off and landed in the shade of her family tree. Your astrology this year -- and for the foreseeable future -- gives you the ability to get up and walk out of the shadow, but you need to see where you are, get up, and move your feet.

This is not to say that bold opportunity won't simply arrive spontaneously. With Uranus in Pisces so prominent in your chart, it may well. However, the question in this case is whether you notice, whether you see the possibility as real, and ultimately whether you're bold enough to accept the challenge. Something in your charts tells me that you're feeling quite restless, which is going to be a quality that works in your favor.

This year, Mercury, your ruling planet, spends most of its time in the fire signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. All three retrogrades of Mercury begin in fire signs and all but the last one occur entirely in these signs (Aries and Leo). The third starts in Sagittarius and finally winds up in Scorpio, a water sign, but one with transforming fire in its mix. For most people, fire means fast, intense change -- faster even than what a Gemini would consider a busy day. And when fire changes us, there is an element of surrender and totality that does not give us time to write a memo about it.

Fire signs represent your opposite element, and that means energy -- passion, free from the filters of concept and interpretation. Gemini is the sign of opposites. This tells me you're feeling a calling like never before to indulge yourself fully in the game of life, and to rock and roll with others at their level of intensity. Often air signs (such as Gemini) act in precisely the opposite manner, being deliberative, theoretical, and living as if thought itself were the highest expression of life. For some it is, but no longer for you.

Fire, however, needs to be kept under control. Saturn's ingress to Leo in mid-summer provides a stabilizing, steadying influence, and a time to refine your goals and cut back on your activities.

Saturn also provides some financial relief, as well as a sense of all you've accomplished in terms of building your financial independence the past two years. When you get down to the basic facts, the reason you've been able to achieve a measure of economic independence is because you've put your energy into creating emotional independence and doing a great deal to resolve what were, in truth, overpowering relationships with your parents.

If your personal relationships in recent times have been complicated, turbulent, or unpredictable, one possible reason is that you've been reorienting your whole idea of power. We could say in very simplistic terms that Pluto, making a long transit through your opposite sign Sagittarius, has been forcing you to rise to a state of actual equality with others. But looking at your solar charts more carefully, we could say that Chiron in Capricorn, your solar 8th house, has been teaching you how to negotiate. The lesson has been that everyone and everything is a relationship, and that every relationship is negotiable. PW
