SAGITTARIUS IS A WAY OF LIFE that has to redefine and reinvent itself about once a year. The 2005 model comes with a variety of new features, including some unusual new writing or communication talent, a deep calling to plunge into the mysteries of your own life like never before, and a tendency to take religion and education much more seriously. There comes with this time in your life the growing sense that you have what feels like a final opportunity to make certain major adjustments in your own growth process, both personal and professional. You may feel you need to do this before things get to the point where you have no influence at all. That's the point where you must let go of what you have created, and allow it to create itself the rest of the way. To some extent that is true, but that particular time is not as soon as you may think, and your ability to set the course of your life on the path you want is still very much in your own hands. The past couple of years have come with the theme of negotiation, a skill which you have mastered, more than anything, out of necessity. Most of what you've negotiated is your growth and expansion. You've also been able to get out of certain situations that have held you down, which has been a lesson in maintaining your boundaries. You have learned to be fiercely independent where at times in the past you were extremely over-dependent or over-involved with others. In setting limits and taking responsibility for your own emotional wellbeing, you have set yourself free to have closer and clearer relationships. Something that's become important to you recently, and will continue to do so, is your need for community. You've had to get used to the fact that getting people together is like herding cats, to use one of my favorite clichés. However, you've also figured out that the best way is to open a can of food, or to shine like the Full Moon. Cats and people show up because they want to, not because you tell them they have to. You have been very much a source of nourishment, encouragement and light for many people who need your presence, and are grateful for it. It's not even like you have to do anything other than be yourself. As Chiron works its miracles in your life over the coming year, you're likely to refine your ideas about community and put them to work. For the most part, this has been something you've done unconsciously, or rather, intuitively. The time has arrived to make community a science. As you know, there is plenty of work to do on the planet, and you need to have no reservations about keeping people occupied toward a common goal. Trust me, they need it, and they are fortunate to have your influence to help keep them out of mindless diversions. Your own projects and ambitions seem to be coming along. I think you've tasted some new form of unusual success, which has been born of your whole-hearted determination to free yourself of unwanted influences that get in the way of your ability to take care of yourself and your brood. This has been a time of growth and aspiration and, for the near future, both of those continue to be factors. However, you will soon need to pull in and refine or redesign everything from the inside out. In the interest of the future, you need to set certain limits and put the energy into infrastructure. The trick to doing this successfully is knowing when to stop the expansion process and begin the pruning process, and by early summer you're likely to be getting signals that it's time to pull back, stop committing to new ideas, and invest your energy into developing and fully materializing what you've already got going. One thing you don't have to worry about is not taking life seriously. Nor do you take things too seriously. I would say you've struck exactly the right balance and that is why, from one viewpoint, you are somewhat impervious to harm. The energy you carry is the very essence of protection and abundance; on the good days, you can feel that vividly. On the not so good days, the people around you have to remind you. But your sense that the god of fortune is a close personal friend rarely, if ever, falters. A few things do change this year. For example, instead of your usual knack for attracting people who don't bear the vaguest resemblance to you, you're likely to pull a lot more kindred spirits into your constellation of friends and loved ones. At the same time, you'll find that the people you already know are catching your particular cosmic rhythm and have, perhaps, taken to optimism and adventure as last resorts in a world in which these things are in desperate need and short supply. It's not easy taking the lead in these matters every single day, having to remind half the planet and everyone you talk to that so much more really is possible. And that, as Lou Reed said, you can't count on the worst always happening. People might take you for a fool if your program didn't work so well. Still, I get the feeling that you'll experience the refreshing change that people you know are finally making up their minds, well, to be a little more like you. And not only has this begun for others, I think that you've made up your mind to be a little more like you. Life is in fact a state of mind; there is a choice involved. You know this -- and this is what makes you different. In recent months, you've made an art form out of not knowing for sure. In a universe of so many possibilities, there's little use nailing down reality to one or two generalities that are going to change in 15 minutes. However, that psychic climate pattern is itself about to change. Certainty is going to become a lot more important. Remember that the symbol of Sagittarius is an arrow: a sharp, straight object that flies through the air toward a specific goal or objective. There's nothing vague about that. It may seem odd when, after dealing with so much fluff and fuzz, you're standing on the solid ground of right and wrong, seeing the world in the high-contrast light of differences that really matter. So you simply cannot afford uncertainty or to take morally shaky positions. You also cannot afford to make up the rules as you go; people need to see that you are acting with consistency. And you know that dogma turns off anyone with a thimble's worth of intelligence. So there must be something else that guides you. Let it be the wisdom of experience; let it be data. Take a scientific approach and base your assessments on what you can see, smell, measure and otherwise sense. These are always subject to interpretation, and you're good at that. But for now, cosmic critter that you are, you must ground your sense of reality in the physical world of here and now -- where it is. PW
