We here at Planet Waves are pretty good at tooting our own horn -- after all, we do this because we love it and believe in it. But it occurred to us that with the articulate, passionate readers we have, it would be fun to let them explain in their own words why they subscribe. Here is one of our favorite recent letters.

The very first time I read one of Eric's weekly astrological overviews, I subscribed to Astrology News. For years, I had been looking for a talented, deep-minded, highly conscious interpreter of astrological wisdom, to no avail. What was evident the first time I read Eric is that he is not only a skillful astrologer, but an equally gifted writer. Eureka!

An important quality for any astrologer is the ability to win a reader's trust. Eric and Planet Waves wrote the book on this one. You can tell how trustworthy the writers are because of their intellectual strength, their insistence on truth, their ear for justice, their well-refined logic that connects the dots, and their ability to make the abstract relevant, no matter what the topic. Eric's amusing contempt for provincial prudery rounds out the Planet Waves personality with humor and panache.

Most astrology writings are either so technically mired that only a pro can stay awake to the end, or they're barely literate, or painfully banal. Planet Waves, however, is brilliant without being the least bit pedantic. It inspires as well as informs, and draws meanings from astrological events that are actually useful to readers -- applicable to the individual and to the world at large. If it weren't for that damned residual bias against astrology, Planet Waves would have the readership of Huffington Post or Salon.com. It's that salient.

Bonus: Planet Waves' other authors consistently meet the high standards set by Eric, especially Judith Gayle, whose political mind and wizened soul resonate with my own in ways that have been known to make me gasp out loud. I have never read a piece of hers that did not offer some new, profound insight into a world event. I consider her an unmet soul sister.
