Pisces Birthdays: A Uranian Adventure

MANY FACTORS point to an unusual, challenging and rewarding four seasons for those born under the sign of the fishes. In a reasonably even-handed way, there seems to be no challenge that is unmet with resources and energy, and none that occurs for the sake of itself. Indeed, in most every respect, resources and ideas seem to give all challenges and challengers an excellent match.

Purpose emerges strongly a theme of the year -- which builds ever-steadily toward action and achievement. Though it is some time off, much of the long-term forecast for Pisces is based on Jupiter being so well placed in Scorpio, and steadily moving toward the solar 10th house -- Sagittarius. This will take it over the achievement and success angle of your chart, finally making a conjunction with Pluto, which has been a long-term resident of your 10th. Pluto's presence here suggests that you are working with an extraordinarily long-range plan for success which has been patterned into your life going back to the mid-1990s.

But we are a bit ahead of ourselves for the moment. The astrology of 2006 works brilliantly if you can give up one thing the world is more addicted to than crack, cigarettes and booze combined: predictability, or the pretense thereof. Thining you know what's going to happen is a mind game and little else; planning, while it has its uses, is functionally useless if what we really need is to adapt to the moment. There are much better options than predictability, anyway, and you're well on the way to experiencing them. If you adopt an "expect the unexpected; work with the unexpected" approach, you will make many discoveries, and experience many developments, that prove useful for many years to come.

Awareness, breakthrough and innovation are all indicated to by the long-term presence of Uranus in your birth sign, which has been developing since the mid-2003. This transit is currently being sparked to life by next week's New Moon, exact Feb. 28. This points to a shift in levels, an awakening, or emergence in a new place and time; a true relief from that which has become all too familiar and infusing your life with excitement and a spirit of questing.

It is true that everyone born the first week or so of Pisces has been feeling -- or getting swirled into the divine madness of -- Uranus conjunct their natal Sun. By now you've had a taste of the excitement and creative chaos that is the keynote of this era in your life, stirring up the deepest Piscean longings to be a psychedelic pioneer in whatever line of art, work or love is most suited to you. If there has been instability, it's been just enough to hold the door open to making real adjustments and allowing new ideas to take hold.

But Uranus, the magician, is mysterious in its ways, and Pisces is a sign of delayed reaction. Developments brew for years beneath the surface, only to emerge in a seemingly spontaneous way. Your natural mutability or flexibility suits you to this style of growth.

There is, however, more going on than meets the eye, and the birth of a truly new life, perhaps one that you have not yet visualized, is suggested. Systems that have long held you down will be toppled or transcended. You will have an influence, and indeed are serving as a catalyst for your environment to change around you. This property of upsetting the stodgy old order of reality and blazing in with something new and different is written in every strand of this planet's DNA, and that, in turn, is encoding itself into all things and all people Pisces.

As the final sign and what some call the 'dustbin of the zodiac', yours is a sign that bears some of the strongest influences of the past. Indeed, all of history is a Piscean matter, that is, history beyond the scope of memory or comprehension; racial history; the crushed powder that lightly coats the foggy ruins of time.

In individual terms, this can manifest in your life as living in the midst of a mental, emotional and sometimes physical compost collection from which anything new grows. Yet the time has arrived to make a radical shift in this process; to free yourself from the bounds of your own personality; to clear away that powder; and in some ways, to become a person you don't exactly recognize. I mean this in the most positive light -- that even your experience of yourself can be a an adventure.

On the most human and practical level, Uranus pushes us toward freedom. I probably use this word more than I should, but what I mean is following the inclination to think and feel for yourself; to respect your own ideas; and to allow yourself to take as examples those people whose view of life is humanistic, humanitarian, and based on creativity rather than doctrine. There are plenty of them, and they recognize you as soul cousins.

In so doing, you will allow yourself the same space, and give your conscience the room to make its own decisions rather than faking a belief in what others say is right or wrong. Pisces has a property of really knowing its own intentions, while being able to endure everything and anything for seemingly endless periods of time. And then the limit is reached -- yet this, too, you can exceed. One way to view the Sun making a close approach to Uranus these days is as an actual limit of your own choice has been reached: a boundary on what you cannot endure -- most particularly where boredom is concerned.

Uranus present in one's birth sign or ascendant is a calling to leadership in precisely these areas. But it's leadership by example and frame of mind rather than by authority or ideology. Without giving an ideological rant on the subject of ideology, most people just don't notice how much their process of thought is basically dictated by a bunch of values that were taken on and never questioned, some time between birth and the first words we ever spoke. As a Pisces, particularly one born in the first decanate of your sign, your role in life is to cast off all such oppressive mental structures and start your own personal revolution.

Of course, you're most likely to do this in your own Piscean way: a but underground, in the background or otherwise out of plain sight, at least at first. That works fine; what counts most is that, in whatever way you do, your internal developments are expressed in the world around you and made known to the people whose lives you exchange energy with.

With an eclipse forthcoming in your 2nd house of personal resources, self-esteem and personal comfort, the time has come to make your life more efficient. As a Pisces, your natural inclination is to commerce and exchange -- yes, I know, this idea runs to the contrary of the image of the sensitive stoner-poet that Astrology books foist on us.

Exchange begins with two possibilities -- what you have, and what you need. What is interesting about the sign Pisces is the clear sense of resourcefulness that you possess, as well as identifying with what you have to offer to the world. In addition, there are rather formidable powers of acquiring what you need.

The journey of this eclipse involves a top-to-bottom reassessment of both your resources and your needs. There are many possibilities for converting diverting excess resources into spaces where your needs are not met. The extent of human contact involved in the building and development of your resources cannot be overstated, which is to say that you have the potential for development on a fairly large scale, certainly larger than you are generally accustomed to.

If you've been in tune with your astrology, you've been feeling shifts in this direction. I see this as a calling to reach out, and to build or evolve a community that you could develop as a personal economy. You have unusual charisma for just this kind of activity, and with all the innovation and breakthrough indicated in other areas of your chart, you have an excellent chance not just of success, but of succeeding in a highly unusual way.

The exchange is giving up any old vestiges of faithlessness in yourself that are, in truth, the results of another place and time. You are now the decision maker in your life; you decide what influences you want; you choose your options. Remember.

More next week.
