Aquarius Birthdays, part iv.

THOSE WITH BIRTHDAYS in this immediate region of time are in a year when your ideas about money play an exceedingly important role in your life. Money is energy. Money is potential. Money is this weird imaginary thing that we give a lot of power to; understanding the use and development of the stuff is indeed a form of 'magik', and it can be light, dark or any shade in between. I suggest you go for bright colors and clear rays, to match your imagination.

We can, for the sake of this discussion, divide the world in to three basic categories of people where money is concerned: 1. those who are the masters of the game, who thrive or who are rich; 2. those who are on the bottom of the game, and are constantly struggling; 3. and those who are working to change their ideas about money, and to shift their means of support to endeavors that fully support the world and their own growth.

It would seem that anyone born the last week or so of Aquarius is in this last camp, no matter how well you are doing, or not. This is indeed a time when your changing fortunes are linked directly to your ideas about the value of money, its connection to ideas, and certain elements of your spiritual development. Indeed, though I would not often say such a thing, your financial success can indeed be a direct result of your evolution.

Money is one of the most spiritual subjects out there, or in there. I say this because it's often considered one of those things that high minded people would prefer not to dwell on or even think about much; we see how screwed up many of our parents are or were on the subject; the world seems to take something that could be very equitable and make it onto something grossly unfair. Then the power games begin. None of this is necessary and as usual, you are in the social vanguard.

Money is great therapy fodder because it is directly lined to our ideas about survival, whether we are taken care of, whether the cosmos responds to our needs, and in turn, what we believe about our own existence. It is no small question: can we really do something that we love, that benefits humanity, that supports us back? For many, this seems unreasonable.

Is the universe kind, or mean? Is the world fair? Are people honest? What are we willing to do in order to get by? Do we consistently do what is right, or do we feel forced to sell out? Do we feel we have the right to be ourselves? Do we take care of other people?

Are we victims of life, or do we participate in creating it?

These are the ideas that come up on the shovel when we go digging in this particular field of life.

Look at ideas about money and you have at least half the answer (the other half would come from our ideas about sex, and the two are closely related because both are related to collective survival and individual well being). More germane to our particular discussion, however, is the connection between money and self-esteem. It would appear that you are feeling the benefits of this connection. Your image of yourself, your sense of your existence and most of all, your ideas about having a connection to the human family are all in rapid development and constant flux, and you may be having some significant revelations these days.

They are not fleeting fancies; they are the growth process at work.

The mind is a strange thing. It can go on and on for years stuck in one pattern. We can seem to make a lot of changes and then find ourselves back in the same place. Or one little idea, one subtle clue, can shape all of reality. I think you've had this clue recently, and though you may doubt it and though it's entirely possible you may forget it for a while, a seed has been planted and there really is no going back.

I recognize that doubt is a pervasive problem on the planet's surface, and most of the time people doubt the things they could be the most certain of and are certain of the most dubious things. But yourself, you cannot, and will not, doubt for long. Indeed, your reality has shifted; you have discovered something; in a sense, you really do hold the key.

The more you can keep this in mind, the more you will be able to take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves, and the more you will be able to walk casually around what seem to be the greatest obstacles.

There is no doubt you're being pushed in a certain direction, or have discovered that certain doors are closed. You may still be knocking your head against them, but there are better ways to use your head. And as the next few seasons work out, you will see how this is true; you will gain confidence in yourself; and I think you'll start to get the hang of how feeling good about yourself and feeling good about money have something in common.

Now, there are only two reasons I can get away with saying this in a world that equates money with meaning, success, beauty, self-esteem, self-worth, righteousness, and and a glowing self-image (all more or less falsely). One is because this is an astrology column and you're likely to be someone who feels that people and experiences are worth more than money; and two, because you're an Aquarius, the chances are better than 50/50 that you take an altruistic view of life, or strive to.

Besides which, you are practical. Anyway, I am talking about real self-esteem and not how you might feel driving a sports car, which is an artifice at best and a trapping at worst (albeit, a fun one). This is an extended phase in your life and indeed those of all Aquarians of speaking directly to your personal insecurities about yourself and your place in the world. The dialog has begun. Both sides are listening. This is a time of getting past your family's feelings about you, whether 'negative' (which can be limiting) or 'positive' (which can be really limiting) and waging a kind of revolution.

This process has been driven by curiosity, by a constant flow of ideas, and recently by some sudden revelations that have essentially awoken you to now resourceful you are; how imaginative you are; and how much you have to offer. It really is true, and even if people don't seem to see it, keep looking until you find the ones who understand.

Not everyone will be thrilled about your developments, but no matter -- and at the same time, there are certain people who are going to thrive on your quest for awakening, and these are your true friends. They are the people who accept you, who are not scared of you, and who know you're no good to anyone if you're not really free.
