Aquarius Birthdays, Part Two

THE RECENT RARE and magnificent New Moon so close to your birthday marks a correspondingly unusual turning point. This was a New Moon celebrated by billions of people around the world as the change of the year, and the astrology was apropos of the event. As I write, five major bodies are aligned in Aquarius, and many more are aligning in what I've called the Parallel Worlds alignment.

The first of many implications is that you have choices. You have choices about where you want to situate yourself in life, what you want to do, as well as who you want to be.

While it would be exaggerating to say that you are not bound by anything, you have the ability to transcend or renegotiate many of the boundaries that currently surround you.

Times are indeed different, yet you will need to be mindful of "the ghost of birthdays past" and observe your ongoing confrontation or encounter with who you were in times before. Encounters and confrontations can be engaged or danced with any way you like. You can engage in give and take; you can discuss things; you may take the opportunity to separate yourself from the situation; you can declare who you are today.

In life on the physical plane, the past is always an issue. Nearly all people drag the past around in the form of old hurts, debts, patterns picked up from their families, and patterns in society that very obviously trap us. And often there is the need or temptation to push the people around us to catch up.

If you take action to free yourself from the past (which could begin by at least being fully aware of its influences on you) before you ask others to do so, I think you'll find that the process of finding the present is that much easier. Too often, we want others to free us from who we were and what we have felt, done and said in the past without letting these things go ourselves. It is true that there are plenty of instances where people try to hold us to the past, because to not do so means they will have to be in the present themselves. Oftentimes people are threatened by the fact that we are making progress. It can be very frustrating.

But that's not quite where I see you today. Au contraire. What you need to count on is that the people around you also need to be free. And by letting yourself have more space to be yourself, you will give them permission to do so. That, in turn, will let you go a little further. Identifying some of the subtleties in your relationship to your environment will go a long way toward helping you here. As an Aquarian, your mental environment is probably the most important one to consider.

I suggest you monitor your self-image quite carefully. If you do, you're likely to notice this potentially happy, or potentially strange phenomenon (or both): as you shift your sense of self, and as you give yourself experiences that allow you to experience yourself differently, you will be treated like a different person. The social patterns that seem to keep you in their grip will have less occasion to do so, and sooner rather than later you will discover that new patterns become established.

Let's call that "Method One."

Method Two is more extreme: it involves the potential to make the change all at once. You may feel there is a risk involved: What will you be giving up? What certainty will you be leaving behind? Will people accept you, or resent you, or feel betrayed? They may. And, if this is not too typically an Aquarian thing to say, usually they figure out that it's their stuff, and they get over it. Or, you're more valuable to them than the negative feelings they may temporarily harbor, and they wake up without justification.

You have the option at this time in your life -- and from the look of the astrology, it's rare enough to find -- to just make the changes you need to make. It is true there is a sense of daring the impossible that will come with this kind of change, but I think that once you take the first step, the rest will come naturally. There is so much momentum in your birth sign right now, such a torrent of planets cascading on or near your natal Sun, that the sense of movement should be quite natural to you.

This kind of change would really be about taking the plunge. You have done it before; it has, at other times, just happened to you, where you found yourself in a new dimension of reality. And, even if you opt for Method One, you may find that Method Two takes over your life, and saves you a lot of work. So don't work too hard. The forces of progress are much stronger than the forces of petty back peddling, and though throughout much of the world, the Rear Guard is in command, those who embrace change will find their lives go a lot smoother than those who do not.
