Success at Standing Rock and the Astrology of 2017
Dear Friend and Listener:
In tonight's edition of Planet Waves FM [play episode here], I take a second look at the chart for Monday's evacuation deadline at Standing Rock.
|
Depiction of Kali, the central goddess of Tantric practice, as seen in 1913 in the Calcutta Art Gallery. The image is originally from the book Indian Myth and Legend. |
As you've probably read, Pres. Obama directed the Army Corps of Engineers to deny the Dakota Access Pipeline an easement to dig under the Missouri River, thus avoiding a violent standoff between North Dakota officials and water protectors.
In the second segment, I look closely at the astrology of 2017, even glimpsing as far ahead as 2020. You'll hear fresh takes on Pluto in Capricorn, the Uranus-Eris conjunction, Saturn in Sagittarius, and the Chiron-Pholus square.
In the second two segments, I dive deep into the subject of Tantra. What is it? How far back do its origins go? What's it really about? Why would one want to experiment with this way of life, and how do you do it? I give my own description in the third segment and in the fourth, resume reading from the 1974 book Tantra: The Indian Cult of Ecstasy by Philip Rawson.
Speaking of the early 1970s, my musical guest is Pink Floyd, with selections from their 1972 album Obscured by Clouds.
This is the record that immediately preceded Dark Side of the Moon, one of the bestselling records of all time. [Get Obscured by Clouds on iTunes or Amazon.]
What did the band sound like underneath all those computer-generated effects? Obscured by Clouds lets you hear just that. It's one of my favorite works from the backstreets of that era.

Beyond the Internet: Your Future is Real
The Book of Your Life 2017 Readings
Dear Friend and Reader:
This has been a challenging year. Everyone is feeling it. We all need a break.
Change is catching up with us fast -- with each of us as individuals, and with the grand experiment of modern society: that is, of freedom and of responsibility.
Astrology describes this beautifully -- for those who are interested. Astrology is big enough to encompass anything, particularly if contemporary methods and planets are used. Best of all, astrology reaches into who you are as a person, and helps you see your options.

What led to the strange phenomenon of the election of 2016 -- whether you're horrified or think the outcome was just fabulous -- is still developing rapidly.
Using a past era as a comparison: were this the 1960s, we would be in December 1965. So much seems to have happened; very nearly everything has yet to happen.
Where will you be positioned as these radical transformations take hold? You have things you want to do with your life. You want to keep your peace of mind and deepen your inner relationship. You want to do your bit to take care of the world -- the world that the young people in your life will inherit from us.
I'm right here with you. My goal is to prepare you for the passage of time, so that you can make the most of your life.
Each year (going back to 1999), I write an annual extended reading for all 12 Sun, Moon and rising signs. This year, that reading will be called The Book of Your Life (or What The Astrologer Said). Unlike past years, this will be exclusively in writing; I am striving for simplicity and clarity.

This has been quite a year. And while Eric will not exactly predict the future in the 2016-17 Sagittarius Birthday Reading, he does offer a useful framework that you can build on and explore -- one full of tools, inspiration and reassurance for your relationships, your healing journey, your career and creativity questions, and more.
If you could use someone to shine some light in your life, look no further.
To remind yourself of just how heartening and empowering these readings are, you're invited to listen to last year's Sagittarius reading as a gift from us. Check Eric's accuracy, and chart out just how far you've come this past year.
"About a week ago I went back and listened to last year's Sag report and was blown away by how it seemed to describe my personal journey."
-- Sagittarius customer via email
The price for the new reading is only $24.97 for two segments of nuanced, yet accessible, audio astrology and a vibrant, intuitive tarot reading -- but it will increase at least once more when it fully publishes.
This reading works for Sagittarius Sun, Moon and rising folks, and makes an amazing gift. You may pre-order it here.
Yours & truly,
Amanda Painter

#NoDAPL: Why the Black Snake Isn't Slain
"As long as there is money in this pipeline, there's a good chance oil will follow." This thoughtful guest column by Kelly Hayes of Truthout discusses why, despite the refusal of easement to complete the Dakota Access Pipeline, the water protectors and their allies must not yet relax their efforts.
Feds Deny Dakota Pipeline Permit
Just hours before the Monday morning deadline to end the Standing Rock protests, the Army Corps of Engineers said Sunday that the feds would not approve permits for construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline beneath the Missouri River. Eric checks out this intriguing bit of news.
Veterans' "Human Shield" Heads to Standing Rock
On Dec. 4, approximately 2,000 veterans traveled to Standing Rock as part of the Veterans Stand for Standing Rock effort, according to The New York Times. The veterans' aim is to act as a "human shield" between the unarmed water protectors and police. Amanda Painter and Leah Habib investigate.
Earth, Sun Align with Deep Space Point
On Monday, the Earth and the Sun aligned with the Great Attractor, the center of our local universe. The Great Attractor is associated with the Laniakea Supercluster, a pool of subatomic particles located in deep space. Eric suggests that the astrology is inviting you to work toward specific goals.
Uranus-Eris: Remember, All Bets are Off
Thursday's edition continued our special coverage of what's happening at Standing Rock, and the build-up to the threatened eviction. Nobody knows what will happen next in this standoff. However, Eric suggests that in the context of Uranus-Eris, the unexpected should feel pretty normal by now.
Making Values Count in the Face of Chaos
On Thursday, Venus in Capricorn squared Eris in Aries. Amanda Painter suggests that the question this aspect seems to be asking is, "How will you demonstrate, with tangible action, your core foundation of values in the face of our current turmoil?" Mars and Jupiter play a supporting role.
Found In Time
Were you to look at a chart for Venus entering Aquarius tomorrow, you might think that Venus and Mars are going to form a conjunction soon. Len Wallick today offers that possible mistake as an example of how astrological context consists of more than just spatial representations.
Universal Sisterhood: Venus in Aquarius
On Wednesday, Venus enters Aquarius. Amy Elliott suggests that Venus in Aquarius contrasts with the obsession our culture has with romantic (and to a certain extent filial) love. Instead, it speaks of the kind of love that is universal, unconditional and impartial; what the Greeks named agape.
Democracy Now! Pick of the Week
In an historic win for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North Dakota and the environment, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers denied Energy Transfer Partners a permit to drill underneath Lake Oahe on the Missouri River -- officially halting construction on the Dakota Access pipeline.
