Welcome to a new season. We have officially endured Mars retrograde, the closest approach of Mars to the Earth in 60,000 years, Mercury retrograde, Chiron retrograde, and just last week passed through the Equinox and the Libra Full Moon. That all adds up to a shift in energy. Slowly you're likly to have the sense that things are working out. Keep your patience and maintain your awareness, and observe what what unfolds as the energy releases even as you get swept away in the changes. There's no need to push right now, just to keep steering your cosmic vessel and keep making choices. We're headed for a very different kind of season. The astrological story of this autumn is colored by an event called the Harmonic Concordance, which is a total eclipse of the Moon on Nov. 8. This is an eclipse simultaneous with a rare pattern called a Grand Sextile or Star of David. The Concordance is currently the focus of the weekly essay series (part of Planet Waves Weekly) and will be the subject of three or four more essays this year. Here's a link to one of my essays at the Harmonic Concordance homepage. Aries (March 20-April 19) Consider the different ways the past may hang over you like a fog, and the extent to which you've been struggling with this. The past does not always look like a history museum; sometimes it feels like fear, uncertainty, unfulfilled desire or unresolved need. Fog does not clear by any means but the warmth of the Sun, which in astrological terms equates to honest self-expression. Take the time to work out the questions that don't have words around them and the observations you've made about yourself that defy clear expression. When the climate shifts you'll find yourself in the world of people, places and excitement that you've missed so dearly, and that has missed you. But I don't suggest you rush. You may need to experiment with these questions for a while, applying them to your life in practice, not theory. You've yet to reach the turning point in a complex emotional matter involving partnership, shared property and some kind of sacrifice you've been compelled to make. The kind of second chance you're about to be given can be easily squandered, and the risk is that you're still walking the fine line between deep need and aggression. In a short while you'll have the opportunity to settle your bets, close your accounts and move on. But the bottom line is not your real concern. The need for closure is. Gemini (May 20-June 21) Use the practical concerns of your life more like the supports of a bridge and less like obstacles and you'll have a useful system to navigate your way through the season's changes. In other words, your basic necessities are not distractions from your true objectives, they are your means of getting from one place to the next. While you seem to have goals, in recent months they have been entirely too vague to be of much practical value. I'm not sure you've recognized that your plans need to involve other people whose priorities and motives align with yours as part of your vision of what is right for you. If protecting yourself takes priority over doing what needs to be done, that may be difficult. Subscriber Login | Subscribe Now | Why Subscribe? Cancer (June 21-July 22) Forget that people are surprised to see the 'other side of you' -- the leader, the artist, the independent thinker, one who is capable of taking on a new identity or mission on a moment's notice. You're soon likely to emerge in an entirely different capacity, taking a more public role to which you may not be accustomed but are very well suited. At this point you may not be aware of the constellation of factors that are aligning to make this change possible, but all the elements are present. Meantime, you can trust that whatever you're doing now is designed to provide vital experience and, most important, contact with people who will assist you when the moment is right. You know what everyone else knows, and they know all or most of what you know. What you have that they lack is the overall vision, and the skill, to put the pieces together. This will allow you to be the one who delivers a creative, daring solution when all the normal means of creating security or solutions fail to work as expected. You know why you feel safe in the world; few others can fully relate, which is their loss. You're also aware of the ways in which a certain injustice was perpetrated, and know that what the situation calls for is healing, not revenge. Subscriber Login | Subscribe Now | Why Subscribe? Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) You are entering a season wherein you'll have an opportunity to work out something that's resisted progress for many years. It's difficult to reach the core level of an issue when it does not directly involve the events of our lifetime, and my sense is that what's troubled you the most goes back to what happened to one of your parents. A sacrifice was made, and the burden of that debt was passed along to you, leading you to have certain unrealistically negative expectations about your own life. You'll also see that something truly unique was born in you as a result of this struggle, something you'll value immensely when you discover it. It's a gift you can share with everyone you know. This is one of the true paradoxes of living a spiritual life, that is, a life devoted to growth, awareness, honesty, service and love. But the equation should not be so strange to anyone who observes the psychology of the mind or emotions, since fear works in precisely the same manner, feeding on itself and becoming its own reason for being. You will soon be faced with some profound choices about who you want to be. In the same gesture, you will have an opportunity to evaluate who you were, and evaluate whether to feel good about that, or to hold a grievance against yourself. You've been in this place before, but never so fully as you are now. Subscriber Login | Subscribe Now | Why Subscribe? Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Your relationships may change profoundly as a result of the astrological events of the autumn, but those that have valued and possessed integrity up to this point will only emerge stronger. All the others are likely to experience a test which they may not be ready or able to pass, and I strongly suggest you waste no grief on what might have been or should have been. Events in your life and in the world around you are moving quickly, but they are also moving very effectively. Each decision you make has wide implications now, though if you pause long enough to ask yourself the question, "What is right for me in this situation?" you will hear an accurate answer. I assure you, nobody knows better than your inner voice. Subscriber Login | Subscribe Now | Why Subscribe? Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22) The nature of your interpersonal partnerships is changing. There is a high priority on solid arrangements, and a growing sense that in the space where two people meet a different set of laws and principles govern the interaction rather than anything the world speaks of openly. While such meetings are generally quite rare, for you at this time in your life they are the more common occurrence rather than the exception. You now know that you can only exchange what you have to offer, and you can only receive to the extent that your heart allows. Could anything but fear get in the way of this process? And if they had the choice, who would want such an obstacle? You do have the choice, and you have it now. Subscriber Login | Subscribe Now | Why Subscribe? Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) The very growth process that has driven you all-but-mad for the past couple of years is now at the point where it's providing you truly worthwhile returns. Could it be that your nemesis has become your great friend? It may at times feel like pure luck, but you could not have gotten here without significant effort and endurance. The people you've accused of being the most resistant have become the ones who have sped you on your way the most effectively. Qualities in yourself that you felt made you the weakest and most defective have turned out to be your source of inner strength and the drive for liberation. How could you have ever gotten this backwards? Does it matter? Subscriber Login | Subscribe Now | Why Subscribe? Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) You're likely to find yourself in familiar territory as this most eventful year winds to a close, or rather, as time bursts into the future. This season represents an opportunity to visit the past you have nearly forgotten, and a reminder of what you were formulating those years. Mark your progress since 1995. Turn the clock back and see where you were at in that moment, and remember what you knew you wanted. Then look at how far you've come since that time. Did you get where you wanted to be, or needed to be? Did the world you envisioned emerge? You might be inclined to say "mostly" or "somewhat." You now stand in a very similar place. Look with your heart this time around and you won't miss. Subscriber Login | Subscribe Now | Why Subscribe? Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) "Beyond" is the only word I can think of to describe the direction you are headed. Where exactly is not clear, and though it's not fair to say absolutely anywhere you want, you have considerable freedom in determining your destiny. Mainly you have an enormous reserve of energy that you've been accumulating over a substantial period of time, akin to an arrow being drawn back in its bow and held ready to be released. The only time to determine the correct trajectory is before the arrow is allowed to fly, and you are now in that moment. This is the time to aim your life carefully and, in the mystical tradition of archery, to breathe into your shot and become one with your target. |
